Art is a tool of expression, enjoyment, and desolation, thus what do these 3 pieces of art depict?
1- THE LADY OF SHALOTT
This splendid painting was painted in 1888 by the English painter ” John William Waterhouse”, so this magnificent painting was inspired by the lyrical Arturian medieval ballad of Alfred Tennyson ”The lady of Shalott”. Thus, the painting depicts the tragic end of Tennyson’s ballad in which the lady of Shalott passed away of unreciprocated love.
2- LAS MENINAS
Las Meninas is a painting of the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez who was the personal painter of the Spanish king Philip IV. Thus, las meninas picture the role of art and the artist, it is like a dialogue between art and the viewer by including himself and the royal family in the painting.
3- BAL DU MOULIN DE LA GALETTE
This spectacular piece of art was painted by the French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who was one of the founders of the artistic movement ”impressionism”. The painting portrays a 19th-century Parisiens working class on a Sunday afternoon enjoying their afternoon.

I have a mug (turned into a penholder) with his “Decameron” on my desk – it makes me feel quite swoony when I look at the way the ladies are all enraptured by the storyteller… it inspires me to try to spin my own narrative wonder! xx

So interesting, I’m not the biggest fan of art but it’s always so interesting to learn about the story behind them.
