Disney marked many generations with their movies, especially Disney princesses, but the real life version of these movies is a real tragedy.
POCAHONTAS (ANIMATION MOVIE)
Pocahontas is a Disney animation movie, which was released in 1995. The movie is about ”John Smith”, a British settler who journeyed to New England with other settlers… In which he fell in love with a Native American ”Pocahontas”, but her father was against their romance due to wanting her to marry a native warrior…..
THE REAL STORY
The real story is unfortunately way different from the animation movie, it takes us back to 1596 the year when Pocahontas was born under the name of ”Mataoka” her mother deceased giving birth to her, she’s the favorite daughter of the Paramount chief of ”Tsenacomoco”, she was raised by her aunties , and it’s said they called her ”Pocahontas” because of her playfulness. In 1608 English settlers arrived in the New world, not as in the movie john smith and Pocahontas were not in love with each other, they had no romance when john smith arrived Pocahontas was 10 years old and smith 27, also he wasn’t a hero as the movie depicts he was a huge scam back… Native people captured him to live in their village, but with time the relationship between Pocahontas father and J. Smith grew up he nicknamed him ”Werowance” which means ”Chief of the colonist” because they have enemies in common ” SPANISH”, thus native people helped the English settlers, taught them how to fish, how to survive in winter…
At 16 years old Pocahontas got married to ”Kocoum” a native warrior they had a daughter together ”Ka-okee” but unfortunately her husband was killed by the English settlers and she was kidnapped…. English settlers kidnapped her because she’s the chief’s favorite kid so that English people will manipulate or blackmail Native American by Pocahontas in order to have everything that they desire.
She was forced to convert to Christianity, they changed her name to ”Rebecca”, and she was raped repetidally by the settlers reported by her sister that was allowed to visit her. Then she got married to ”JOHN ROLF” an English settler by force to create an alliance with native people for sacred tobacco ceremony’s, so that English settlers will be able to attend these ceremonies to get access to the recepies for business shiit … When Pocahontas was 19 years old, settlers took her to England to show the monarch how Native Americans could be ”Converted”… In such a manner, they received more financing. One night Pocahontas had dinner with her husband ” Rolf” and Argoll her kidnapper in which they poisoned her and claimed that she was dead naturally, but historians proclaimed that she was 100% healthy before the dinner. Woefully, Pocahontas was murdered at 20 years old.

“Indigenous Continent” is a scrupulously supported history of the history of the European contact with Native Americans, and it includes an account of Pocahontas’ short life, and it is in agreement with how you have described those events. I’m commenting to support your account for any readers who have bought into the Disney version, which was also the inaccurate version I learned in the 1950s from other sources. The typical American’s understanding of the history of indigenous peoples is soooo very wrong!

True…. The ideology that people have about indigenous people is very erroneous. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

I remember reading the real story and being very disturbed. It is so fucked up. :,( And the fact that Disney made it into a happily ever after.

Honestly, i was pretty shocked when I’ve discovered the real story comparing it with Disney’s movie…. They mixed it up in their own way and omitted the horrendous reality.

Yes it’s incredibly sad. And the fact they’d romanticize it so much.

So much of what I learned in history class when I was growing up (in the 60s) was, shall we say, just a little bit off. I had not seen this account before, but am not surprised.
