A BRIEF HISTORY

Witchcraft, witches, and wizards dated from the ancient near east and Nile valley especially in Babylon and Ancient Egypt,it’s unclear when witches come to the scene, moreover in the 14th and 15th centuries witch-hunts appeared in southern France and Switzerland….the causes of witch-hunts comprise lack of education, and social crises.

Thus, as you can see, witches existed before….but women aren’t witches. In the Middle Ages any woman who was educated, courageous, confident sexually liberated, beautiful, and of course against the patriarchy was accused of being a witch, and needless to say, they were burned at the stake to protect the society from them. Witches history has a deep relationship with feminism because the majority of these women who were burned by the church in the Middle Ages were against the patriarchy and sought emancipation as it was mentioned in the article of ” Witches are having their hour” by Laura M. Holson https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/11/style/pam-grossman-witch-feminism.html ” The witch is a feminine archetype who has authority over herself. She doesn’t get power in relationship to other people. She has power on her own terms. And because of that she is, I believe, the ultimate feminist icon”.
